Iranian contacts

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
My husband and I went to buy some cashew nuts in a little shop, where we knew the owner Reza was from Iran, but we hadn’t met him yet. There’s usually his Russian wife or an Iraqi shop assistant to serve us. (Itäkeskus, Helsinki)

I’m telling the story backwards. Better start at the beginning. Last spring we met an Iranian family near where we live, in a little ethnic shop. The family worked for the above mentioned Reza, while he had another shop in another shopping centre... My husband and I went to see the family, mother, father and two daughters, on several Saturdays. I studied Persian at a table outside the shop with one of the daughters and taught her Italian. The mother served us exotic teas and biscuits. We were so ecxited and thrilled that our six-hour session just flew by. But alas, all good things have to come to an end. The shop was closed at the end of May, and the family flew to Tehran for the summer.

To make a long story short; now, at the end of December, we went to Reza’s shop, and who did we run into, ecxept the elusive Reza himself, but Manucher, the father of the family I was telling you about, Oh joy, oh rapture! Manucher had obviously been speaking Persian with Reza and his Finnish was rusty. I couldn’t remember much Persian, only for a few words. Fortunately Reza spoke some Finnish, and then it turned out he spoke Italian... Che bella sorpresa. Boy was communication easy all of a sudden!

And of course I began remembering Persian words when we were on our way, driving home... Khoda hafez! ( = Bye )

Each section contains commentaries by world leaders, activists and peacemakers such as Desmond Tutu, the
late Benazir Bhutto, Betty Bigombe, Rajmohan Gandhi, Joseph Montville, David Smock, Margaret Smith, Donna Hicks and Mohammed
Abu-Nimer. The story is about a millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and his affection to Daisy.
Initially it seems that 'Confession' isn't much more than a simple calendar to keep track of confessionals and dates and things, but in fact it can be used to record your sins, set dates for penance, and has a list of the seven acts of contrition.
